Quick answer
New killer reaches powered gates and wants to know how to keep pressure without wandering or overcommitting.
Choose the endgame win condition
Once generators are done, a killer cannot pressure repairs anymore. Your pressure comes from hooks, injured survivors, gate spacing, and survivor greed. Do not wander between every possible target. Decide whether you are defending a hook, checking gates, or chasing a survivor who cannot safely reach an exit.
- If you have a hook near a closed gate, make survivors spend health states to save.
- If nobody is hooked, patrol the gates with the shortest useful route.
- If a survivor is injured and out of position, commit only if the gate is not already free.
How hook defense changes in endgame
Endgame hook defense is different from early camping. There are no generators left to punish you for staying near the only objective. Still, beginners can throw pressure by chasing too far from the hook or ignoring the gate survivors need to use after the rescue.
- Watch the rescue path and the exit path, not just the hooked survivor.
- Force survivors to spend health states before they reach the hook.
- Do not leave a guaranteed hook defense for a chase that exits immediately.
Gate patrol without panic
If hatch is closed or gates are powered with no hook, patrol gates based on distance and line of sight. Beginners often walk fully to one switch, stare too long, then arrive late to the other gate. Short checks are usually stronger unless you see progress or a survivor nearby.
- Use audio, switch lights, scratch marks, and known survivor locations.
- Do short checks if the gates are far apart and you have no contact.
- Commit when you have a real hit or grab chance, not just fear of losing.

Is camping okay in endgame?
Endgame hook defense can be correct because generators are finished and the hook may be the only remaining objective. The important part is defending the rescue and exit route, not staring at the hook without a plan.
How should killer patrol exit gates?
Use short checks between gates, watch for switch progress and survivor signs, and commit only when you can force a hit, interrupt, or protect a hook route.
