Quick answer
New player wants to understand glowing totems and side objectives.
What a totem is
Totems are small map objects tied to some survivor and killer perks. A dull totem may do nothing by itself, while a hex totem supports a killer perk and can become a high-priority target.
- Dull totems are unlit unless a perk or effect changes them.
- Hex totems are lit and are tied to killer hex perks.
- Boon effects come from survivor perks that bless a totem area.
When to cleanse
Cleanse a hex when its effect is clearly hurting the match or your team has time to remove it. Cleansing every dull totem immediately can waste valuable generator time.
- If the killer hex is snowballing pressure, removing it can be worth the time.
- If teammates are hooked and generators are untouched, a dull totem is usually not urgent.
- Remember where a totem is if you cannot safely finish it now.
When to bless
Blessing can help if your build uses boon perks and your team can benefit from that area. A boon in a dead corner often gives less value than a central, reachable area.
- Bless near useful routes, not only where the killer never goes.
- Do not spend the whole match rebuilding a boon while generators stall.
- Treat boons as support, not a replacement for objectives.
Should beginners cleanse every totem?
No. Cleanse dangerous hexes and useful totems, but do not give up generator progress just because a dull totem exists.
Can killers remove boons?
Yes. A killer can snuff a blessed totem, so place boons where the team gains value before the killer has time to remove them.
